Wednesday, September 27, 2023, Mayor Armel Revel Fourcade, accompanied by Sandrine Rocca, Assistant for School and Extracurricular Affairs, Childhood and Youth, presided over the inauguration of the new space dedicated to childhood: Récré-en-Têt. This Ceremony is the largest representative of the financial representatives, Yohann Marcon, Sous-Préfet de Perpignan, Hermeline Malherbe, President of the Department of the Council, Alain Dario, Vice-President of the Perpignan Metropolis and Pierre-Marc Boistard, Director of the Caisse. ‘Family compensation.

It all started with the purchase of former private school buildings that had been abandoned for more than two years. Initially, the idea was to build a new structure, but the municipality quickly adjusted its strategy by purchasing these existing buildings, fully equipped and perfectly adapted in terms of space and layout. Subsidies granted by the State, the Pyrenees Orientale, the Urban Community (PMM) and the Family Allocation Fund (CAF) made it possible to finance this acquisition, providing a financially beneficial opportunity for the realization of this project. In a firm democratic approach, the municipality also organized a citizens’ consultation in July to rename the building. Citizens had the opportunity to choose from 13 pre-selected names or submit their own suggestions. With the participation of more than 200 people, residents finally approved the name Récré-en-Têt, a choice that perfectly embodies the warm and welcoming spirit of the place. Following this consultation, the Municipal Youth Council organized a vote to formalize the name of the new space.

Financial partners, families and children have been impressed by the exceptional quality facilities that have been put in place. Throughout the summer, the building underwent a thorough cleaning, careful renovations and updates to strict standards, ensuring a safe environment for everyone. Municipal technical services agents worked in various fields, including plumbing, construction, painting, and electricity. An art room was created, while the new kitchen was carefully fitted out. All modifications comply with safety, hygiene and food regulatory standards.

Récré-en-Têt is open to children registered at the leisure centre, on Wednesdays as well as during school holidays. In addition, it is home to the Relais Petite Enfance (RPE). Teenagers are always welcome at Espace Jeunes located at 10 rue de la Paix. Access to the facilities is exclusively for children from the Nursery and Primary Center (aged 3 to 11 years) and children from the RPE. The rooms are designed keeping in mind the specific needs depending on the age of the children. Thus, the complex includes a kitchen, activity spaces, a motor skills room, dormitories and toilets specially designed for the little ones. To delight children, there are many outdoor games in the courtyard such as swings and slides. This project demonstrates the municipality’s commitment to providing a promising future for young people, making “Récré-en-Têt” a place for full growth and prosperity.
