On the shores of Lake Annecy, a man armed with a knife attacked five people Thursday morning, including four young children. The tragedy occurred in the popular Bakier, an extensive landscaped park and popular gathering place in the heart of the city.

The tragedy occurred on the shores of Lake Annecy in Bacquier. A man armed with a knife carried out the attack on Thursday morning, injuring six people including four young children before they were arrested by the police. Two of the children are currently in absolute emergency.

The attack took place in a well-known place in the city, central and popular, where residents used to meet, especially on sunny days. It is a special gathering space for young people and families who enjoy the greenery and the beautiful view of the lake and mountains surrounding the city.

“postcard place”

Le Pâquier is one of the main areas of the Jardins de l’Europe, an extensive park around Lake Annecy. On BFMTV, Loïc Hervé, centrist senator from Haute-Savoie, describes the place as “as well preserved as can be found in the beautiful city of Annecy”.

“It’s the postcard place,” the parliamentarian continues, “it’s the Annecy we love.”

Very famous place

This pedestrianized place is occupied throughout the year, and also hosts major popular events such as the Lake Festival, the Animation Film Festival or the Music Festival.

Loc Hervé details the location of the attack, evoking a very crowded place: “We are in front of Jules Philippe’s school, in Annecy, you have a whole green surrounding, there is a pétanque club, a yard with children’s games.”

The motives of the aggressor at this stage are not yet known, and the temporary toll is five wounded, including four children, two of whom are in an absolute state of emergency.
