Laughing gas is prohibited for minors and in public places
The misuse of nitrous oxide for its euphoric properties can be dangerous to health, hence this provincial ban
No more laughter. The governor of Dordogne has just signed a decree banning the possession of nitrous oxide cartridges, commonly called laughing gas, by minors, as well as their use in public places.
Nitrous oxide is the gas found in the cartridges of whipped cream blades and in some aerosols or carbohydrates. It is increasingly being diverted from its current use, by young people in particular, for its delightful properties. Inhaling it, it causes uncontrolled laughter, intoxicating feelings, etc.
Health and safety risks
“The abuse of this gas has been known for many years, although its consumption has been on the rise for five years. In the context of the health crisis and confinement, its consumption has increased sharply in recent months”, confirms the Ministry of Health.
However, excessive consumption of “proto” can lead to nervous disorders, anxiety, headaches, loss of consciousness, and falls due to the latter, health authorities warned. Such damage to health can also be associated with disturbance of public order (agitated behavior, noise pollution, etc.).
