It’s finally time: James Cameron presents ‘Avatar 2’

The trailer for “Avatar: The Way of Water” will be shown in cinemas worldwide starting next week, the trade show announced. CinemaCon visitors who already wear 3D glasses can catch a glimpse of Pandora with blue oceans, mythical creatures, and blue-skinned Na’vi companions, Variety reports.

The most successful movie in history

Cameron began making four “Avatar” movies simultaneously in 2017. Planned movie releases have been pushed back often, most recently due to the coronavirus pandemic. “Avatar: The Way of Water” is now scheduled to hit theaters in mid-December, with sequels to follow in 2024, 2026 and 2028. The original production “Avatar – Aufbruch nach Pandora” (2009) is considered to gross more worldwide than $2.8 billion to be the most financially successful film in history.

New with Kate Winners and Vin Diesel

According to Variety, the first part takes place ten years after the original release. Sam Worthington returns as titular character Jake Sully, who now has a family on the threatened planet with his blue-skinned alien girlfriend Neytiri (Zoe Saldana). He also brought back Cameron Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang and Giovanni Ribisi from the old team. Newcomers include Kate Winslet, Vin Diesel and Michelle Yeoh.
