Poland – one ” Shame “ In the heart of the Polish Parliament. On Tuesday, December 12, a far-right member of parliament emptied a fire extinguisher onto a menorah, a seven-branched menorah symbolizing Judaism. The menorah was lit on the occasion of the celebrations of the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights, in the presence of Jewish figures.
Donald Tusk immediately condemned the MP’s gesture. “Something unacceptable has happened and it should not happen again. It is unfortunate.”The Polish Prime Minister announced to the press. The Speaker of Parliament expelled Grzegorz Braun because of this act, which is “ A slap in the face of the Polish Parliament ». “As long as I am president, there will be no tolerance for anti-Semitism, perversion and racism.”“, thundered Simon Holonia, who interrupted the discussions.
As you can see below, footage of the incident shows Grzegorz Brown spraying the menorah as the room fills with a cloud of foam.
After a meeting of the Presidency of Parliament, Simon Holonia indicated that the MP had received the maximum financial penalties and that a complaint would be filed against him in court. He explained that the MP, who had previously attacked a Holocaust historian last May, faces a prison sentence of up to two years.
The majority of parliamentary groups, including the populist nationalist Law and Justice Party, condemned the action. “Shame! A member of the Polish Parliament just did this. Just minutes after we celebrated Hanukkah there. For his part, the Israeli ambassador to Poland, Yaakov Livni, pointed out on social media.
The lower house of Parliament was discussing the morning political speech by Prime Minister-elect Donald Tusk. She must hold an almost guaranteed vote of confidence in her pro-European government, bringing an end to eight years of populist nationalist power in Poland.
