Health emergency spreads to Guadeloupe, Saint Martin

The Cabinet decided to extend the state of health emergency to Guadeloupe, Saint Martin and Saint Barthelemy. It was already in force in Martinique, Guyana and Reunion. The official announcement was made by Gabriel Atal, on Wednesday, July 28, during the council meeting.
“We have decided to declare a state of health emergency in Guadeloupe, Saint Martin and Saint Barthelemy”,
The government spokesman explained that in order to “allow all necessary measures to be taken to protect local hospitals that may quickly find themselves under great pressure.”
“In Guadeloupe, only 15% of the population has been fully vaccinated,” while in San Martin and San Barthelemy, “the infection rate is up to 1,714 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.”
