General culture and science: French spectators of their intellectual decline – society – textual contents
The advent of the Internet and new technologies has been to provide man with almost unlimited access to knowledge. It seems that our contemporaries are actually more driven to delegate their cognitive functions to said technologies. The phenomenon of Chat GPT, this intelligent conversational agent developed by Open AI (owned by Elon Musk) recently provided a perfect example of this: a teacher at the University of Lyon noted that half of the assignment transcripts were partly written by artificial intelligence (AI). More than the temptation to cheat — far from being a novelist, even if the consequences of AI for teaching are not the subject of this essay — it is the feeling that the ease offered by new means of communication and information has diminished our personal and collective capabilities. Intellectual requirements seem to take precedence.
