Environmental Concerns and Elections | Science Press Agency

We have already talked about I vote for science, from the electrical shift encouraged by CAQ. However, there was more talk about the third link which many experts denounced as a false good idea.

Remember that even if Quebec performed better thanks to its hydroelectric capacity, Canada would be, per capita, the third largest polluter in the world, after the United States and Australia.

And not just greenhouse gases, caribou survival, air quality and health are other environmental concerns that deserve attention.

Isabelle Bourgogne talks about it with:

  • Patrick BoonenAnd the Responsible for the Climate and Energy Campaign at Greenpeace Canada.
  • Simone Langlois BertrandAnd the Associate Researcher at the Trottier Energy Institute and Professor in the Department of Political Science at Concordia University
  • Dominic GravelAnd the Professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Sherbrooke and holder of the Canada Research Chair in Integrative Ecology.

Do they think the different parties are doing enough? We are talking more than before about climate, shouldn’t we also be talking about reduced biodiversity?

Among the main issues we will have to talk about sooner or later: the need to reduce urban sprawl, reduce individual driving, create protected areas, deaths from air quality problems, reduce our meat consumption, reduce the use of chemical fertilizers, the need to develop a circular economy …

What are the environmental expectations of voters? There are more and more people who are concerned about the environment, especially among young people, how do we reach them?

Technological solutions to environmental problems are often offered, but shouldn’t we think more about revising our ways of doing things – transportation, pollution, forest protection, etc.?
