Donald Trump will be able to return to Facebook and Instagram, Meta announced

He will be able to return. Meta announced Wednesday that it will end Donald Trump’s suspension on Facebook and Instagram, after two years exclude it following to Capitol attack January 6, 2021.

“The public needs to be able to hear what politicians are saying so they can make informed decisions,” Meta’s head of international affairs, Nick Clegg, said in a statement.

Meta claims it has put in place “safeguards” with “aggravated penalties” which will apply to “any public figure who is reinstated after a suspension related to civil unrest”. If he breaches Facebook’s charge, his posts will be deleted and he may be suspended for a period of one month to two years “depending on the severity of the offense.”

Temporarily exclusive to Truth Social

Donald Trump responded to Truth Social, insisting he should not have been removed from office: “Such a thing should not happen again to a sitting president, or to anyone else who does not deserve to be punished!” He also asserts that the future of his Truth Social network “unlimited”.

It remains to be seen when he will return to Facebook or Twitter. According to documents provided to exchange authorities, Donald Trump signed an agreement giving Truth Social a six-hour exclusivity to all social media posts. This agreement is valid until June 21, 2023, but Donald Trump could, in theory, terminate it “in the event of force majeure.” Whatever happens, he should be able to come back to launch the GOP primaries this summer.
