Decathlon Btwin Bol 500 test: all year bike helmet

Design and ergonomics

The shape of the bowl is discreet and well covered, for adaptive use in the city. Fans of fantasy can choose one of the twelve colors Decathlon has to offer. A colored helmet is also a good way to be more visible during the day.

Often, the helmet consists of an outer shell and inner polystyrene protection. These two parts are not formed together. A very slight gap can be seen in some places; Watch for dirt buildup. Fortunately, the Btwin 500 is pretty bulky and still shows off 458 grams, which is way too heavy for a helmet.

Very enveloping, drops very low around the ears. So much so that depending on your shape, the thickness of the temples of the glasses may be an issue. Despite the 12 holes, the Decathlon helmet lets the skull breathe very little; This drawback in the case of heat becomes an advantage in winter. The small size of the holes makes it somewhat protective against light rain.

Inside, rather thin foams are attached to polystyrene. Their comfort is just right, no more, and it will be suitable for trips of less than 30 minutes. However, their support is not perfect and the foams can slip off when the helmet is removed. Good point, the helmet has a visor that limits the effects of the sun and rain. However, it is too bad that this eyebrow is attached to the inner foam and cannot be removed if desired.

The occipital traction at the back of the skull is done thanks to an easy-to-use handle. Once properly tightened, the Btwin Bol 500 locks perfectly into place. The slot allows you to pull the ponytail without difficulty in the back, above the pulling wheel.

The chin strap is attached to a good old buckle, again simple and effective. Too bad Decathlon does not provide protection to lubricate the connection between chin and throat with this buckle.

The little extra part of the Decathlon Bol 500 is a pair of ear protectors that attach to the chin straps and can be removed very quickly. We could totally consider putting them in a bag to get them out if needed. These pads are comfortable and provide good coverage. They are perforated with small holes that allow ambient noise to be heard.

The Btwin Bol 500 is equipped with a small accessory that allows you to attach LED lighting that Decathlon sells as an option for about ten euros.
