Covid-19: The United States cuts the isolation period for infected people in half
The United States cannot tolerate many people in isolation… In the face of increased pollution due to the Omicron variable, the authorities announced on Monday that the duration of isolation for people with Covid -19 and asymptomatic people will be halved, from ten to five days. The quarantine period for unvaccinated contact cases has also been reduced from 14 to 5 days, with mask-wearing strictly advised within the following five days. Fully shielded contact cases do not need to be self-isolating.
The Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC), the leading health agency in the United States, said in a statement statment That “this change is justified by science,” with the majority of infections occurring within one to two days before symptoms appear and two to three days after symptoms appear. The foundation’s president, Rochelle Walinsky, explains that these changes “ensure that people can continue their daily lives safely.”
No isolation, but a mandatory mask
“People who test positive should self-isolate for 5 days, and if they are not showing symptoms, they can leave the isolation,” the CDC says. However, health authorities add an obligation: to wear a mask “in the presence of other people” for the next five days. The CDC’s recommendations serve as a standard and are widely followed in the United States, but they do not constitute a federal obligation.
The most transmissible Omicron variant is now the majority in the United States, and the number of cases is rising sharply in the country, to more than 200,000 daily cases over the past two days, approaching last January’s record. Officials are concerned that some economic sectors will be paralyzed due to a shortage of manpower. The sharp rise in the number of cases in the country, and the periods of isolation that accompany it, in recent days has caused airlines to cancel flights by the hundreds.
In France, Prime Minister Jean Castix and Minister of Health Olivier Veran announced, Monday, at a press conference, that the isolation periods will be reduced in the coming days. “We will put these new rules in place by the end of the week once consultations with our scientific bodies are completed. The prime minister made it clear that it is about reducing pressure on those who have been vaccinated,” he added.
