Santander, 25 (Europe Press)
New Zealand took the gold in the Real Club Maritimo de Santander Test. New Zealander Josh Jr. was the winner of the Santander Invitational Test Event for the Finns, while Spain’s Joan Cardona climbed one place and took fourth place.
After four days of regattas in Santander waters, as part of the International Sailing Week, the Finnish Olympic class bids farewell to the competition until its next date, which will be the Tokyo Olympics, the Naval Club said in a statement.
The event, organized by Real Club Marítimo de Santander, brought together class winners from Finns and 13 – out of 15 registered – Olympic representatives who will meet again in Japanese waters.
Finally, after controversy over the qualifying race and final race (Medal Race), which scores double, the gold goes to Kiwi opposites Josh Jr.
The second, and final race winner, is Nicholas Hainer, who is still four points behind the leader. And the third step on the podium belongs to Britain’s Giles Scott, who managed to remove the bronze Zsumpur Perez until yesterday.
Spain’s Juan Cardona, who in two weeks travels to Tokyo, regains one place on the final day and takes fourth place, placing third in the medal race.
The Waszp class – in Regatta starting Friday – and Snipe – starting Saturday – will be the two classes responsible for closing Santander City’s International Week of Sailing.
