(Gleneagles) Northern Ireland’s Darren Clark faltered in his quest for his first major title, and England’s Paul Broadhurst seized the opportunity to catch him at the top of the standings after the third round of the British Open golf tournament, on Saturday in Gleneagles, Scotland.

Indeed, Clark needed a birdie on the last hole to level with Broadhurst, who scored four goals under 66 on Saturday. Leading by two strokes after the second round, Clark finished the day with a score of 69.

After 54 holes, Broadhurst and Clarke both combined scores of 201, nine under par.

“I went to the court and played really well all day. I gave myself one chance after another,” Clark said.

“I hit 17 greens in the scheduled shots to lead the championship and played great. At least one (wrapped) decided to drop into the cup on the last (hole).”

Clark lost strokes to 12e and 13e Holes, but he pulled himself together to stay in contention for another trophy after winning the silver at the British Open in 2011.

“It would be great to have the two glasses next to each other,” Clark admitted.

It won’t be easy for Clark and Broadhurst on Sunday, however, as New Zealander Stephen Alker (66) and American Jerry Kelly (67) – both former Grand Slam champions – share third place, one shot from the co-leaders. .

Five golfers follow three strokes from the lead, including Scotland’s Colin Montgomery (68), South Africa’s Ernie Els (69) and Ireland’s Padraig Harrington (69).

“You just have to look at the leaderboard and some of the big names right behind me,” Broadhurst said.

“I have no illusions. I will have to go out on the course and get a full score tomorrow.”

Canadians David Morland fourth (69) and Stephen Ames (74) are part of a group of nine golfers with total records of 209, one below par, after the first three rounds.
