Belgian Conference on Science for Climate Action: “The aim was to bring together scientists working on this topic”

This week a major Belgian conference on science for climate action took place. 400 people participated in the conference, including scientists, politicians, academics and even citizens. Mathias Merschaert, Communications Director at the Belgian Climate Centre, was the guest at the 12:30 p.m.

This is the first edition of the “Belgian Science for Climate Action” conference organized by the Belgian Climate Centre. During these two days, scholars, academics and politicians were able to discuss political extremism, its causes and consequences. “The goal was to bring together scientists working on climate change in Belgium. There are between 700 and 800 working on one of several aspects of these changes.“, explains Matthias Merschaert.

In addition to bringing scholars together, these conferences also aim to transfer knowledge in order to make an impact. “The science is clear. We know that it is human activity and carbon dioxide emissions that are causing us to see climate change. There is a huge international consensus, but we see that all this knowledge is not leading to action.”he adds.

If this is the first edition, it certainly will not be the last. This event should take place every two years.
