Auckland, New Zealand: A small family with the Corona mutation
Locked due to one family in Auckland, New Zealand
On a weekend in Auckland, New Zealand, three people tested positive for the British mutation of the Coronavirus. According to Corona Measures Minister Chris Hepkins, they are a married couple and their daughter. They are said to be the first New Zealanders to have contracted the Coronavirus. To prevent a possible spread, a three-day lockdown has now been imposed in the city of 1.6 million people. A thorough test is also required. Dozens are protesting the crackdown.
The New Zealanders demonstrated against these measures
According to the New Zealand Herald, dozens of people took to the streets to protest. They demonstrated against the crackdown in front of Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern’s office. Critics consider the measures to be overrated, after all, only a small family was hit by a corona boom. However, Ardern called for an understanding of the measures on Sunday. The Ministry of Health also stressed that: The evidence of a boom in the country supports the “decision to act quickly and forcefully” in order to “prevent the possibility of further spread.”
Ordinary in New Zealand
However, these very draconian measures and careful tracking of communications have so far brought New Zealand with its five million people out of the crisis easily. So far, 25 people have died from Covid-19, and only 2,000 have been infected. Almost all of the injured were returnees. The island nation returned to normal long ago, and the stadiums were filled again long ago – without the need for a mask.
