A Tongan international in Oyonaks

Oyonnax, who have been promoted to the top 14, on Monday announced the signing of a Tongan international as a medical intermediary.

Pro D2 champion and promotion to Top 14, Oyonnax has cemented its position this summer in order to better prepare to take on the biggest French cars. Winger Daniel Ecbevan or third line Loรฏc Godener and Kevin Kornath will bring their expertise gained at the highest level. New Zealander Joe Ravuffo and Argentinian Domingo Miotti will do the same. Another international player to expand the USO squad also came in on Monday.

Tongan international Leiva Fifita has been recruited as a medic after second-line injury to Ewan Johnson. The surgery is performed on the meniscus, and the latter will miss between four and six months of competition. Leva Fifita, 34, has the advantage of knowing the French Championship well. Under Grenoble’s colors, he participated in the 2018/19 Top 14 season during which he was a key component of the Isรจre forwards’ pack. In 19 matches, he leveled 2 tries.

Leiva Fifita is coming off a two-season stint in the Irish province of Connacht where his playing time has declined. During the last financial year, he played only 5 matches in the United Rugby League and 4 in the European Challenge.
