Gothenburg has changed in 400 years. Stroll through the regions of Haga, Lindholmen and the archipelago.
Gothenburg’s oldest district is called Haga, whose 400th birthday has been postponed until 2023 due to the pandemic. Interconnected with ancient skyscrapers via inner courtyards, cafes and bars today attract many visitors. From Haga is a short walk to the Stenpiren ferry port, passing by the white fish hall, which locals call the “fish church”.
Rapid changes in Gothenburg
The electric ferry bound for Gothenburg’s newest area, Lindholmen on the island of Hessen, has been an uninhabited industrial site for ten or fifteen years. Today more than 25,000 people from all over the world work, study, research and live in the Science Park. Work is also underway here on developing electric autonomous buses. This new electric bus takes you to the harbor of Freihamn, which has been redesigned as a new entertainment district marking the city’s anniversary. The next day, visitors to Fotö Island in the Gothenburg archipelago will experience the “Lobster Safari”: in a traditional fishing boat, they will fish for lobsters for a few hours with a basket net over the railing.
