New Zealand decides to legalize abortion
New Zealand Parliament passed a law giving mothers and their partners the right to funeral leave after a miscarriage or stillbirth. In such a situation the employees could be paid three days off work. Gene Anderson, initiator of the bill, said one in four women in New Zealand had a miscarriage. “The grief that accompanies an abortion is not a disease, it is a loss. This loss takes time. I am proud to live in a country that is not ashamed of compassionate and progressive legislation for women.” The law does not apply to abortions. New Zealand is the second country in the world to have such a regulation. A similar law exists only in India.
The bill’s initiator Jenny Anderson said the grief that accompanies a miscarriage is not a disease, but a loss.
