Objective of the position: Are you passionate about basketball and determined to lead the New Zealand men's team to international success? The Tall Blacks are looking for a dynamic Head Coach to design and implement a cutting-edge programme for New Zealand’s upcoming campaigns for the 2025 FIBA ​​Men’s Asia Cup, 2027 Men’s World Cup and 2028 Olympic Games. You will lead and inspire the Tall Blacks, working alongside assistant coaches and staff to foster a high-performance environment focused on progression and duration.

Main responsibilities: As the primary voice of the Tall Blacks, you will establish and lead a team culture that reflects the values ​​of both New Zealand Basketball and the Tall Blacks – incorporating the values ​​championed by the Tall Blacks and the Federation into the team’s identity and player development.

You will select athletes in accordance with the Federation Selection Policy and FIBA ​​Guidelines, and will collaborate with the High Performance Program Manager, Assistant Coaches and Performance Health Team on campaign plans, competition and training schedules.

Demonstrating high-level coaching skills, you will be responsible for developing and implementing the Tall Blacks style of play to achieve success on the international stage.

You will work to elevate athletes to international competition standards and develop their leadership potential. It is essential to create a dedicated learning environment for player development and define program objectives with the Federation’s High Performance Manager and Program Director. You will develop in-depth analysis of players, teams and their opponents to inform skill development programs and game plans.

Building on the Tall Blacks’ rich history, they will aim to achieve the best results at the 2025 FIBA ​​Asia Cup, with the goal of qualifying for the 2027 FIBA ​​Basketball World Cup and the 2028 Olympics as a result. They will propel New Zealand into the top 20 basketball nations this quarter….

Skills and experience required
