Māori Temuera Morrison was born in Rotorua, New Zealand. He took his first acting steps at the age of 12 in the UK Children's Film Foundation production of 'Rangi's Catch'. In the following years, Morrison appeared in several New Zealand television series such as “Seekers”, “Adventurer” and “Shortland Street”. As well as in the films “The Other Half” by Jun Ling and “Don’t Die Alone” by Jeff Murphy. For the last two performances, he was nominated in the Best Actor category at the New Zealand Film Awards. But it was only in 1994 that he received the award – for his portrayal of the role of alcoholic and violent husband Jake Hickey in Lee Tamahori's film “The Last Warrior.” The international success of the drama makes it known to a wide audience.
