New Zealand takes its stand for 2034

After Asia, the center of gravity of the Olympic movement could shift to Oceania over the next decade. The New Zealand Olympic Committee (NZOC) announced on Wednesday 19 April that “ Express interest » to host the Commonwealth Games in 2034. New Zealand has already staged a multi-sport event three times, in Auckland in 1950 and 1990, and in Christchurch in 1974. According to Nikki Nicholl, director general of the National Olympic Committee, the project will be supported by the government. It will not be implemented by a single city, as tradition dictates, but by the entire country, relying on local equipment. At this point, the process is just beginning. New Zealanders are making no secret of the matter, as discussions have only just begun, and it is expected that there will be many steps before the nomination is officially confirmed. As a reminder, the next Commonwealth Games will be held in 2026 in the Australian state of Victoria. The 2030 version has not yet been allocated.
