DrThe flood-affected neighborhood of Ahrweiler warns against illegal storage of building materials in the Ahr district: This could cause the water level to rise even further. “In the past few months, more and more storage areas have been set up in the immediate vicinity of the bank, where machinery, large quantities of firewood, longwood and various building materials, including appropriate fences, have been stored without official approval,” said the district administration in Bad Neuenahr. – Ehrweiler on Thursday.

The Ahr flood disaster of July 2021 which left at least 134 dead and nearly 9,000 homes destroyed demonstrated this emphatically: Cars, campers, gas tanks and lumber of all kinds piled up in front of embankments to form dams and thus dramatically. It restricts the flow of Ahr. This led, among other things, to a sharp and rapid rise in water levels above these “obstacles”.

In view of the unsettled weather now in the spring and the possibility of a natural increase in a warmer level, the lower water authority in the district administration appealed to the people of the river to “keep the banks clear of any matter”.
