Air New Zealand introduces new business class seats made by Safran
This week, Air New Zealand unveiled its all-new cabin interiors, including the latest Business Class seats, designed and built by Safran Seats. They will enter service in 2024 and will modernize the existing Boeing 787-9 fleet, which aims to provide its passengers with “the best sleep in the sky.”
Air New Zealand has chosen a concept that creates a ‘home from home’ experience. Developed jointly with Safran Seats, this seat is specifically designed for the Boeing 787 without compromising, thus maximizing the available space on this type of aircraft. Air New Zealand also offers two Business Premier cabin options:
The Business Premier seat provides a comfortable and intimate nest for an enjoyable flight and a peaceful sleep. If you’re traveling with a companion, seats in the middle of the cabin allow customers to open their nest and share their ride. The zigzag cabin configuration creates an equal experience for all passengers and ensures better sleep, with passengers moving away from the aisle. The tall structures combined with the adjustable aisle and center dividers contribute to a comfortable ride and a special environment for the passenger. Passengers enjoy several approved personal storage spaces for taxi, take-off and landing (TTL) stages as well as multiple surfaces, including a large electrically powered dining table in one piece. In addition to many traditional features, this suite flies with wireless charging functionality and with an active backrest that provides passengers with another way to manage their personal comfort, certified for various TTL locations.
The Business Premier Luxe Seat is designed for the best sleep in the sky. Air New Zealand’s new offer is aimed at customers looking for more space and more privacy. Luxurious experience with all the functions of a Business Premier seat, but with a door that closes the suite completely and space for two to dine. It also enables new and improved experiences such as welcoming a companion to your suite. This will increase Air New Zealand’s usable space for passengers by 25%.
Keri Reeves, Air New Zealand Director of Aircraft Programs, said: We really encouraged Safran to think outside the box and push the boundaries of what we can do with the Business Premier seat to improve configuration and customer experience. The creative work was almost completely completed during the Covid-19 crisis which added a layer of complexity. We were unable to travel to the Safran site to validate our ideas and concepts, so we built two identical models, in New Zealand in our innovation lab and at Safran to ensure we had a common interpretation of the design and the right feedback on technical development, layout and functionality.
Vincent Maskre, Chairman of Safran Seats, says: We are pleased to offer Air New Zealand a product dedicated to ultra-long haul flying that meets their needs to offer their passengers options. These seats are the result of incredible work between our two companies and will allow for a better journey for all Air New Zealand passengers. The creation of this seat testifies to the remarkable qualities of the experienced teams at Air New Zealand and Safran Seats based in the UK.”
