Ireland coach Andy Farrell: ‘These guys made history’ in New Zealand

Andy Farrell, Ireland coach, after the historic win (23-13) in New Zealand over the Sky Sports microphone: “I’m just happy for the players because they were so eager to get people excited at home. […] I’m so glad they made it happen! […] We did not get caught up in the pace of this game. Even when they were under 14, we kept playing the right match in the right places on the court and applying pressure. I am very proud of them.

The main thing is that we learn to manage the pressure of the match at a high level. Our calm is a really good thing. Things won’t always go our way, especially against the best in the world, but our composure doesn’t change even when we make mistakes, and we get what we deserve. These guys made history and earned the right to win this series too (A third decisive match will meet New Zealand and Ireland next Saturday in Wellington). »

Johnny Sexton, editorial and fifteenth captain of Ireland: The match was a bit turbulent (All black prop Angus Ta’avao disqualified on the 31st) But we are very happy with our victory. No Irish team has done this before. We are happy but everything is still open for next week. The training was great and the equipment prepared us very well for this match. We didn’t do our best last week and got punished by the All Blacks. (42-19 on July 2 in the first game of the series) But the staff prepared us really well this week. »
