the film the piano Written and directed by Jane Campion, the film is set in New Zealand in the mid-19th century. A silent European woman arrives with her daughter on a sandy beach in New Zealand to marry a man she does not know. Among her belongings there is a piano that becomes a symbol of passion, love and liberation.
Campion publishes an anecdote about self-liberation in haunting images. It shows the bleak landscape covered in rain, the metamorphosis and the happy ending. The film reached theaters in 1993. It won the Palme d’Or at Cannes, a Golden Globe and three Academy Awards for Best Original Screenplay, as well as Best Actress for Holly Hunter and Best Supporting Actress for Anna Paquin.
The soundtrack was composed by Michael Neiman. The cast includes Holly Hunter and Anna Paquin as mother and daughter, Harvey Keitel as lover and Sam Neill as husband. The film returns to theaters June 16, 2022, and has been restored in 4K. This means much higher resolution and significantly sharper images. It will also be released in UHD on Blu-ray Disc and DVD on August 11, 2022.
