Ayn Baker, assistant coach of women’s basketball
Washington- George Washington Women’s Basketball has appointed Sheryl Baker as assistant coach, recruiting coordinator, and head coach Caroline McCombs announced Friday.
Becker comes to Foggy Bottom across Georgia, where she has served as an assistant coach and survey coordinator for the past three seasons. Prior to that, Baker worked as a coach at Auburn and Kennesaw State.
“I am very pleased to welcome Cheryl to Foggy Bottom. She has an unparalleled passion for recruiting, connecting and developing young women through basketball,” said coach McCombs. “She has competed at the highest level as a player and will share that leadership and experience with our team. »
All-American in Georgia, Baker has amassed an impressive resume throughout her career. He started 122 from 131 games and scored 1,665 career points for the Bulldogs, and holds the one-season UGA and career steal records with 149 and 426, respectively. Becker was named All-American, All-SEC First Team and National Defensive Player of the Year in 2006. She was named SEC Legend in the 2014 SEC Women’s Basketball Championship.
Upon graduation, Baker was named 12th overall in the 2006 WNBA Draft by the New York Liberty and spent four seasons playing professionally in New York, Los Angeles, Detroit and Indiana. Her football career has also included overseas stops in Israel, Italy, France, Germany and Cyprus, where she has averaged the number of goals each year.
Baker, a native of Stone Mountain, Georgia, earned her degree in oral communication.
