Francis Ford Coppola: “I was convinced I was going to fail” – dpa

NSOnchin (dpa) – Oscar winner Francis Ford Coppola (82, “The Godfather”) lacked confidence in his work as a director.

“There was more of a sense of failure,” Coppola said in an interview with the Sueddeutsche Zeitung newspaper when his films were made. “I was convinced I was going to fail, I wasn’t sure of the outcome. Some people loved it, others thought it was terrible. I failed in my head, and then I was presented with opportunities to fail even more. This is almost my memory.”

In memory of Tom Cruise

Coppola just released a remake of his 1983 movie The Outsiders. It’s the fresh cut of a youth novel about two rival gangs. Tom Cruise, whom Coppola noticed until then, plays a supporting role. “From my experience with young Tom Cruise – later in life I never met him again – I can say that he really wants to be the best.”

Even then, Cruz was doing physically dangerous things in front of the camera: “For example, spin a handstand over cars. At the end of the movie, there’s a big fight between the two warring gangs, and then he takes out the cutter himself because he thought otherwise he wouldn’t It wasn’t real enough. As a full supporting actor, just a few seconds into the movie.”
