The first race started regularly at 4.15pm with Team Emirates entering New Zealand on the left side of the field and Luna Rossa on the right. At the end of the two minutes, Luna Rossa found herself on the starting line on the right side downwind to the New Zealand boat which immediately took hold. Win by eight seconds
The second test was conducted from the start by Luna Rossa who won at the start and immediately went for cover, gaining meters on all six sides and defending the right of the most favored pitch. On the latter two sides, the New Zealanders got into a worrisome situation thanks to a split in the fourth gate that had them rebounding a few seconds, both in the fifth gate and at the finish line, just eight seconds after Luna Rossa. In short, the day ends on a positive note, as the Italian team returned home with the first point of the series, as well as the first victory in one of the America’s Cup matches.
