Will New Zealand be the new home of Dota2 & CS: GO esports?
New Zealand TV 1 NEWS hosted Valve owner and company founder Gabe Newell and drew some explosive information from him. Accordingly, Valve President is currently in talks to host future esports events in New Zealand.
New Zealand – the home of the new esports Dota2 & CS: GO?
Valve is working on the idea of holding future Dota2 and CS: GO events only in New Zealand as long as the Corona pandemic is prevalent. According to Newell, the considerations “are becoming more and more realistic.” Valve is therefore considering hosting Dota2’s The International and all major CS: GO tournaments in New Zealand in order to provide optimum safety for players and staff.
Newell himself and many of his employees moved to New Zealand at the start of the pandemic. Discussions are currently underway over whether to relocate the company’s headquarters from Seattle, Washington, USA, to New Zealand.
Many of these insights can be traced back to the country’s low coronavirus cases. Since the first wave of Corona in March 2020, the number of cases in New Zealand has remained at a consistently low level. Only between two and six people contract the virus every week on the southeastern island of Australia. “For me, it’s hard to imagine running a personal esports tournament anywhere in the world other than New Zealand,” Newell explains.
New games are under development in Valve
When asked if Valve has any new games in development, Newell replied, “We definitely have games in the works that we’re going to announce – the games are fun in release.” Half-Life: Alyx means more single-player games are being developed again in the company. As is known, the Valve boss has not revealed which games will be and when the announcement can be expected.
