Volkanovsky extinguishes Holloway, signs Pereira to KO at night
Ahead of Israel Adesanya’s victory over Jared Cannonier on Saturday in Las Vegas, the UFC 276 event between Alexander Volkanovsky and Max Holloway has largely turned in favor of the Australian who holds the featherweight belt. Great performance by Brazilian Alex Pereira, winner by KO from Shawn Strickland in the first round.
T-Mobile Arena was the stage for a big evening of MMA Saturday in Las Vegas. Ahead of Israel Adesanya’s fresh victory, Jared Cannonier winner by unanimous decision, the other main event at UFC 276 kept all his promises. Australian Alexander Volkanovsky defended his featherweight belt for the fourth time against American Max Holloway. This is the third time that the two MMA fighters have faced each other in the cage. For the third time, Volkanovsky won by unanimous decision. If the first and second fights were close together, then Saturday was one-sided. “It was a show of strength,” says Taylor Labellos, mixed martial arts consultant for RMC Sport 2:
Adesanya is waiting for Pereira
The featherweights king, the Australian is now contemplating a challenge in another division, the lightweight division. This category, specifically, was in the spotlight on Saturday. Adesanya remains the undisputed champion, but before that, Alex Pereira (Nigerian New Zealand naturalized boxing KO winner) signed a KO of the evening.
In the first round, he put down Brazilian Sean Strickland on a terrible left hook. A masterful victory, perhaps, before the promising battle against Adesanya Israel.
