The country declared a state of emergency for the third time in its history. Thousands of people were evacuated, and more than 1,400 people are still missing several days after the hurricane struck.
In the North Island, where the cyclone hit hard, entire villages were cut off from communications. Some sewage works were flooded, which is why people were instructed not to drink water from the tap.

A 6.2-magnitude earthquake occurred in Wellington on Wednesday, but the epicenter was at a depth of 80 km. It didn’t cause any major harm.
