Toulouse: Space now pays tribute to the 35th FTP-MOI Brigade of resistance fighter Marcel Langer
A dedicated space for resistance fighters was opened in Marcel Langer's 35th FTP-MOI Brigade this weekend.
The resistance organization in which Marcel Langer and his comrades distinguished themselves now has its space on the streets of Toulouse, rue de Veritra, near Place Guy Hersant. During the opening ceremony, André Magny, President of Amicale de la 35th Brigade FTP-ME, recalled at length the track record: sabotage of infrastructure, attacks against Germans and French state officials. At least 191 listed measures forced the Ministry of the Interior of the time to send reinforcements to police officers in Toulouse.
“We are forever indebted to them,” Andre Magny insists. History will also remember that these women and men came, for the most part, from abroad. “But they remembered France, the homeland of intellectual and moral ideals,” emphasized Mayor Jean-Luc Moudec, asking: “What would we do, would we be able to do it?” Twenty-seven of them paid with their lives for their commitment, including Marcel Langer himself, who was tortured. Early in the morning in the courtyard of Saint-Michel prison with the guillotine sent by Vichy, prosecutor Pierre Lespinasse reportedly said: “Because you are a Jew, a foreigner and a communist. The question that arises today, formulated by the Saint-Michel neighborhood committee, is how best to tell this story to passers-by.” On Rue de Veritra who won't have time to stop.
