Thunderbolt on the Red Lions: MacLeod and Fulton leave Belgium!
Through a press release, the Belgian Federation sent two major information related to the men’s national team. Belgian Red Lions assistant coach Craig Fulton has been appointed as the head coach of the Indian men’s national team. At the same time, T3 Shane McLeod announced his intention to take on a new challenge with the Hamburg Polo Club.
After the recent Men’s World Cup, Graham Reid announced his resignation as coach of the Indian men’s team. Hockey India today announced the appointment of Craig Fulton as the new Head Coach. The South African, who joined the Red Lions coaching staff in July 2018 as Shane McLeod’s assistant, has become an Olympic, world and European champion with the Belgian men’s team.
In its press release, the Royal Belgian Hockey Association would like to thank Craig for the excellent cooperation over the past six years and wish him all the best in his new challenge.
Shane MacLeod, too, will face other challenges. He managed the Hamburg Polo Club. Shane McLeod, former successful manager of the Red Lions team, with whom he won Olympic silver and gold and became European and world champion, and current assistant to Michel van den Heeuvel, announced his intention not to renew his contract with the Belgian Federation, which expired after the men’s World Cup.
Tom Bunn: “The Red Lions’ success is rooted in the excellent work of all clubs”
The New Zealander will now take on an advisory role for the Hamburger Polo Club and help modernize its programme. Note that the men’s team, led by former German international Matthias Whitehouse, includes five players from New Zealand, three of whom were coached by Shane when he was coaching the New Zealand national team.
Shin explains his decision to need to distance himself from the staff and players he has been involved with over the past eight years and expresses his willingness to take on a new challenge in development.
Who will replace them? ARBH remains positive. She sees these changes as new opportunities for development and helps her coach Michiel van den Hövel to raise the level of the team. You will now explore different options in order to develop the best possible replacement for the staff and team.
