These simple tricks can easily improve your Freebox’s WiFi
If you consider your Freebox’s WiFi to be very inefficient, it’s not necessarily bxo’s fault and you can easily improve on that.
WiFi has become indispensable in many homes. It can connect your smartphone, your TV, even some home appliances and with more efficient technology, it can sometimes even replace the cord on your computers. But sometimes, the signal quality is lacking, which is enough to cause some discomfort among subscribers. Fortunately, there are tips for Freebox subscribers who want to improve their WiFi.
First advice, you should not place your Freebox server in an enclosed space or embedded in furniture, or near metal objects. The box should also not be placed near the TV and player or amplifier. And even less in electrical or metal meter cabinets. Free recommends placing the server in a prominent location, outdoors and high, for example on top of a piece of furniture or a shelf.
You should also know that distance and obstacles reduce WiFi signal quality. We think of thick walls, an aquarium, or even a microwave. It is therefore recommended that you try to change rooms or move closer to your Freebox.
Third advice In the event of a weak signal, the operator invites its subscribers to change the WiFi channel on their Freebox, since the latter may be saturated. To do this, you just need to use the Freebox Connect app. It is also possible to choose the automatic mode.
Another tip is to turn off the Freebox player with its remote control if you are not using it. This will free up connection bandwidth. Restarting Freebox can also be a solution to get the latest updates and possibly improve your WiFi. For occasional and more demanding uses, a wired connection (Ethernet cable) is preferred.
If the performance is definitely not there, you can easily scan for an issue and fix it with Freebox Connect.
Free wifi repeater
Available for purchase (€ 20) with Freebox Pop, Delta S, Revolution and mini 4k offers, the Pop WiFi repeater allows you to extend the WiFi range in all rooms of your home, including the most remote ones. It’s convenient In cases where you encounter difficulties due to the configuration of your accommodation (floor, distribution of rooms) to pick up the signal. Recommended for homes of 95 square feet or more.
Thus, the Pop Wi-Fi repeater in real time selects the best access point between the Freebox and the Pop Wi-Fi repeater(s) (AP routing technology). You can then move from one room to another in your home while still maintaining a good signal. The latter automatically selects the best frequency band for each piece of equipment in your home (band steering technology).
