Ski Freeride – FWT – Léo Slemett on the podium (third) in Fieberbrunn behind the surprise Max Hitzig
France’s Leo Slimmett finished third in the first stage of the 2022 Freeride World Tour Finals in Fieberbrunn (Austria), behind young Austrian Max Hitzig. The first was great. At Fieberbrunn (Austria), the riders were entitled to two attempts (usually against one) to achieve the best possible race, during the first stage of the 2022 finals. Only the best counted and that’s what Léo Slemett understood very well. After his good first round, the Frenchman made use of an almost perfect second round to climb to the podium in a fierce competition. Invited for the first time on the world circuit, Max Heitzig, at just 19 years old, won the event thanks to his impressive first race. He was already guaranteed to take part in the World Tour in 2023 thanks to his performance in the Freeride World Qualifiers. Sweden’s Karl Regener Ericsson was second, only 0.33 points behind Leo Slimmett. Swiss Maxime Chapus, the general classification leader, took 10th place.
Hottest women widen the gap, no suspense. With a very good first round, New Zealander Jessica Hutter, the general classification leader, won the day’s race, despite a big fall during her second round. She is ahead of Norway’s Hedvig Wessel (who took second place overall) and reigning world champion Elisabeth Giritzen.
