Silver and Bronze Medal for Blades in New Zealand Championship
Last weekend in Auckland, the Tahiti delegation participated in the New Zealand National Fencing Championships, which are for students and juniors. During their last participation in September 2022, the Polynesian national team captured a gold medal in foil thanks to Laura-Téa Louison-Grépin who was playing among the cadets. Young Espoir also left these championships with a silver medal in the junior category.
So Louison Gribban was expected to arrive in Auckland last weekend. The Aito Papeete member did not take home a gold or silver medal, but won bronze at the U-17 Championship. His select companions, Luis Marie Sánchez in the U-17 Boys and Alexei Lamalle in the U-15 Girls, also decorated themselves in bronze among the kiwis.
As a team, the fine blades of the fenua also stood out. Still in the tin, the boys took home the silver and Laura Tia Lewisohn Gribben and company won the bronze.
“These results are resounding evidence that the Tahitian swordsman is establishing itself as a force to be reckoned with in the Pacific,” Refers to Arnaud Bellanger, Technical Director of the Tahitian Fencing Federation. “It is clear that the Tahitian fencers have worked hard to reach this level of competition and this was clearly demonstrated by their performance on the field. Their commitment, determination and talent were on full display throughout the competition, and they proudly represented their country with their performance.”
It should be noted that these young talents will have the opportunity to express themselves at home during the next Cadet Fencing Ocenia tournament that will be organized in fenua at the end of September.
