Rugby World Cup: New Zealander Scott Barrett, who is excluded this weekend, will be able to play against the Blues
The All Blacks will be able to count on Scott Barrett, one of their key players, in the opening game of the Rugby World Cup against France on Friday 8 September (9:15pm). He was sent off in the 39th minute of the last friendly match against South Africa (35-7 defeat), and the second line will not be stopped.
On Monday, Scott Barrett appeared before an independent panel. It was ruled that the red card had already come as a result of two yellow cards, and was not worth reviewing upwards, and therefore there was no reason to impose one or more match bans on the second line.
He had picked up his first yellow card in the 14th minute, putting the New Zealanders in great difficulty from the start of the match. But this punishment was not distributed after a serious mistake. The New Zealand team, who have been penalized regularly, have been warned that the next offending player will be temporarily disqualified. Such was the case of Scott Barrett.

The second foul was more controversial: it came in the 39th minute when the second line made a dangerous clearance in a scuffle with Malcolm Marks. He charged his shoulder forward over the neck of the South African whore. Since the risk of the action was not very high, the referee did not consider it necessary to disqualify him with a straight red card. The independent commission agreed. And the committee wrote in its justification: “The exclusion was sufficient after he received two yellow cards, one of them due to a technical error, after warning the referee to the player’s team in question.”
Scott Barrett will be invaluable alongside Sam Whitelock and do plenty of good for the All Blacks in their opening game against France, especially with Brodie Retalik out injured. After the blow to South Africa, New Zealanders will want to fight back.
