Rugby: Covid. Italy tour of New Zealand canceled
(ANSA) – ROME, May 10 – The Italian Rugby Union has officially announced that the national team’s summer tour in New Zealand was originally scheduled for July 2021, with two Test matches against the All Blacks on July 3 and 10, not to take place.
The decision was made after consultations with World Rugby, the world governing body for tennis, the New Zealand Football Association and government and health authorities in the two countries and after exploring every possible alternative.
“In rugby, the Summer Tours continue to represent a precious human and sporting adventure – comment by Fier President, Marzio Innocenti – a tour of New Zealand, with the potential to challenge the All Blacks for two back-to-back Test matches, is the ambition of every player. For our national team, for many youngsters who have appeared on the international scene in recent seasons, this summer’s tour has been an exceptional training moment. After long consultations between our federations and their national authorities, and after exploring possible alternatives with World Rugby, we had to note, despite ourselves and our deepest regret, how conditions made It is best for the national team to focus its energies in light of the fall streak.
The 2021 international calendar will allow us to welcome the All Blacks to Italy next fall, a date we are already sticking to.” (ANSA).
