Redfall will not have a store or microtransactions but will be the most supported Arkane game | Xbox One
Since the release of the Redfall previews on Wednesday – we have it here – a lot of new information has been released about the new Arkane Austin game. In particular, we learned that the game should have been released on PS5 before the acquisition by Microsoft or that the developers were currently trying to make Redfall’s single-player mode work even offline. Now, the game’s creative director is talking about the Redfall store and microtransactions.
Microtransactions were planned prior to the acquisition by Microsoft
Present at Bethesda headquarters in London for the Redfall previews, Harvey Smith, veteran of Arkane Austin and creative director of the game, was interviewed. By our colleagues from Wccftech. The topic of the online store and microtransactions came up when audiences wondered if they were removed entirely or just removed from the gameplay trailer. This is Harvey Smith’s response:
“We try to be very clear that there are no microtransactions and no store in the game. We are very proud of that. If you find an outfit in the game, you can get it, it’s that simple. Other than that, Redfall will be the most supported game after launch. We chose Server model, which allows us to constantly update the game. If we see a lot of people fall off the stairs and die, we can update the ladder code. If we find that no one is playing this character, we can modify it and make it more attractive. We have plans to add weapons, costumes, monsters, characters, and more Which we can’t talk about right now. But we’ve had a good year of updates, and it’s all either in the current game or in the DLC. We’re trying to make things as fair as possible for the players.”
So microtransactions and the game store have been completely removed from Redfall since the title’s beta. As a reminder, fans were concerned about the presence of microtransactions and/or a cosmetic store in Redfall after leaked images from a playtest that took place in 2021. The decision would have been made by either Microsoft or Bethesda after the acquisition of ZeniMax. Redfall departs from the classic “game service” model and will even be the most supported Arkane game in the studio’s history.
This prepares us and guarantees us a quality follow-up from the studio, even if it will also depend on the reception of the game by the public next May. Redfall will be released on May 2nd on Xbox Series X | S and PC. It will be integrated directly on the day of its release into Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass.
