President Kais Saied dismisses his prime minister without explanation
The Tunisian president was democratically elected in October 2019 and has held all powers since then. He recently announced that he is seeking a second term in office.
The presidential elections will be held in Tunisia on October 6.
The Presidency of the Republic announced, in a press release, the dismissal of Tunisian Prime Minister Ahmed Hachani, on Wednesday evening, August 7, without official explanation, and the appointment of the newly appointed Minister of Social Affairs Kamel Madouri. Ahmed Hachani replaced Najla Bouden on August 1 of last year, who was also dismissed by President Kais Saied without official justification, who has monopolized all powers in Tunisia since his coup on July 25, 2021.
Kais Saied, democratically elected in October 2019, granted himself full powers three years ago, sacking his then-prime minister and suspending parliament, which was later dissolved. After amending the constitution in 2022 to create a hyper-presidential system and electing a new parliament with severely limited powers, he recently announced that he would seek a second term in Tunisia’s presidential election on October 6.
During the day, Ahmed El-Hachani published a press release about the meetings held at the government headquarters, especially about the difficult situation of public transportation. Kamel Madouri, the former head of the National Health Insurance Fund, took office last May, succeeding Malek El-Zahi, who was dismissed at the same time as Interior Minister Kamel El-Feki, who was succeeded by Khaled Nouri.
