Polaris Dawn, the adventures of a billionaire who returns to space

Three years ago, commercial spaceflight gained new momentum. At the helm: Jared “Rock” Isaacman, a New Jersey billionaire and founder of Shift4 Payment, a company specializing in commercial solutions, particularly mobile payment software and hardware. He’s not just a businessman, he’s also an astronaut and a very skilled pilot. In 2009, he broke the record for flying around the world in a light jet in just over 61 hours. He’s also, among other things, the founder of Draken International, which supplies aircraft used to train U.S. military pilots, making him the owner of the largest fleet of private military aircraft in the United States.

A lot of candid biography for a man who is now helping to revolutionize private space exploration. In 2021, the Inspiration4 mission managed to send a physician assistant, a university professor, a computer engineer, and eventually Jared Isaacman himself into orbit. Upon landing after three days in orbit, the billionaire declared, “We’re just getting started.” He wasn’t lying: He’s about to embark on a second flight, one that’s far more ambitious than that inaugural mission.
