Pixar's new short film – a beautiful tale about overcoming your fears
Piper is the story of a little sandpiper who is afraid of the water on the coast. It is only when the little sandpiper makes friends with the little crabs hiding in the empty shell houses that this changes.
It all started in 1995 with the animated film “Toy Story”, followed by the classics “Monster AG” (2001) and “Finding Nemo” (2003): but Pixar – the pioneer of computer-animated films, now part of the Disney group – is known not only for its feature films, but also for its funny, kind and sometimes profound short films.
With “Piper” the filmmakers finally deliver a new hit. The star of the animated short is a little sandpiper and the story is simply wonderful.
These shorebirds spend most of their time on the coasts of the far north, and in winter they head to New Zealand or Australia. They are always on the beaches searching for food, using their long beaks to peck at mussels, insects and larvae in the sand.
A short film about her might seem boring at first, but it's not in Pixar. The six-minute clip is called “Piper,” after the English name for the bird (the sandpiper).

“This is a story about overcoming your fears,” says Alan Barilaro, president of Pixar, of the short film. It reminds him of his childhood. Young people need the opportunity to explore the world for themselves and make their own mistakes, and that’s what “Piper” is about, Barilaro explains. USA Today.
Traditionally, Pixar also shows great attention to detail in this production. It's not the first short film about birds, in 2000, Pixar created the funny and charming short story “For the Birds”.
The basis for its great popularity Pixar released computer animated films. In 1986. “Luxo Jr.” is considered a landmark and was the first fully computer-animated film to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film.
After 1989's “Tin Toy,” Pixar won its second Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film for 1997's “Geri's Game.” Sensitive, charming, and funny, it tells the story of old Jerry, who plays a game of chess against himself in an autumn park.
