Paris 2024 Olympics: Spying, Drone, Arrest… Canada’s Women’s Soccer Team at Heart of Controversy
Two members of the Canadian soccer delegation have been expelled from the Olympics on charges of spying on the New Zealand soccer team. One of them has been arrested by French police.
The New Zealand-Canada match in the women's Olympic soccer tournament was not expected to make headlines. However, Thursday's match in Saint-Etienne could be the center of attention. In question, Canada's selection finds itself in the middle of a legal case. Two members of the Canadian delegation were expelled from the Paris Olympics on charges of spying with a drone.
“The Canadian Olympic Committee stands for fair play and we are shocked and disappointed, and we offer our deepest apologies to New Zealand Football, all players involved and the New Zealand Olympic Committee,” the Canadian Olympic Committee announced on Wednesday, July 24.
The trainer has been removed.
French police have arrested a member of the country's women's soccer team while filming New Zealand's training with a drone. However, the “analyst” will not be accredited to follow the Canadian selection.
