“That was great. I came back to New Zealand for the first time since 2017. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I have not yet been able to introduce my parents to their granddaughter. It was important for them that they only have four grandchildren, and for me. I was able to stay for three weeks. In Auckland enjoying my family. It feels so good. It’s rare to be able to enjoy so much time with your loved ones. It feels so good, both physically and mentally.
Well, for the first two or three days, my parents, uncles and cousins who passed near the house asked me about the La Rochelle track in the European Cup. Then, yes, I followed the news of the blacks from afar; But my daily life revolved around visits to zoos and theme parks. I wanted to make the land of New Zealand known to my 6 year old son and daughter. Let them begin to realize where their parents came from. We rented a large SUV, put the bags behind and left for a few days in the south of Auckland Island. The idea was to come together as a family in the middle of nature.”
Above all, he enjoyed being anonymous in New Zealand. Extract:
“It’s been a particularly long time since I’ve been back in New Zealand. And then, at my parents, no one knows me. I’m anonymous there, and I feel good. These three weeks have done me so much good. La Rochelle, I forced myself to do ten days of individual preparation. It was obligatory because I ate well at my mother and father’s house… (laughs)”
