1130H The Bas-Rhin tobacco-free zone was inaugurated on Monday, June 12 in Oberhausbergen in the presence of Cécile Delattre, Mayor of Oberhausbergen, Gilbert Schneider, Chairman of the Administrative Committee of the Cancer League, the teaching team, children and their parents. It is located near Josué Hoffet Primary School. On this occasion, a new agreement was signed between the Municipality and the Administrative Committee of the Anti-Cancer League.

The Bas-Rhin Committee of the Anti-Cancer League has been promoting “tobacco-free spaces” since 2014 in the municipalities of Bas-Rhin. To date, the Bas-Rhin region has 1,130 places designated as tobacco-free in 405 partner municipalities.

Two tobacco-free places in 2016

The municipality of Oberhausbergen opened its first tobacco-free spaces in May 2016: the stadium on the rue du Général de Gaulle (behind the town hall) and the recreational area on the rue du Stade.

On this occasion, the first partnership agreement was signed between the municipality and the Bas-Rhin Committee of the Anti-Cancer League.

In 2021, a new step has been taken in this partnership. Oberhausbergen became one of the six experimental municipalities of the Bas-Rhin.

The 2021-2024 period will see a large number of support, awareness and mediation actions to inform the population and encourage them to think about the place for tobacco.

Residents of the city who want to quit smoking are offered free sessions with a tobacco specialist who works in Oberhausbergen.

Before the opening, the Cancer Control League staff intervened in the school’s four CM1-CM2 classes on the topic of tobacco.
