NRL – The NRL can be increased to 20 clubs – Rugby League
The Australian rugby world is in talks to develop the NRL further ahead of the 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games.
After welcoming the Dolphins as the 17th franchise to the NRL, Australian rugby chiefs would like to bring in three new players by 2032. New Corp Reports indicate that a meeting has been set up between Peter Flandis, chairman of the ARLC, and Nick Politis, chairman of the Roosters, with the aim of making rugby league the number one attraction of the 2032 Olympic Games.
For this purpose, the ARLC would like to create three franchises in order to develop the NRL. A project costing $400 million over 20 years. For the 18th franchise, the Pacifica formation appears to be holding the rope. With the support of the Australian government, which is said to be ready to invest several tens of millions of dollars, it will be based in Cairns and will host certain meetings in Tonga, Samoa and Papua New Guinea. Also mentioned is the return of the North Sydney Bears, missing since 1999.
A project not too far off since NRL boss Andrew Abduh announced the V’landys’ 18th franchise in 2027 while renewing TV rights, as well as the 19th and 20th over the next decade.
The NRL’s plan is a $400 million bombshell for the 20-team NRL revolution
