New Zealand world champion John Afua commits to Fan

Breton club, Pilar Jean-Avoa, 2011 world champion with New Zealand, has announced his registration for next season at Vannes, and he is currently 12th in Pro D2 but is actively recruiting. Last week, Fan had already announced a commitment to 2024 by Alabati Liwa, the 33-year-old Samoa international who had established himself at English club Bristol since 2017.

John Afua, 38, has also been playing at Bristol since 2018, following Auckland, Ulster and Gloucester. He has 36 caps with the All Blacks, including two in the 2011 World Cup Finals in New Zealand, where the host team won the final against France (8-7).

I have always wanted to come and live in France, to learn and discover this culture. I can’t wait to start this new chapter of my career. He said in a club statement. “I can’t wait to take on all these young players in Pro D2 and bring all my experience to my teammates“.

Second in last year’s regular Pro D2 season, Vannes lost in the last second to Biarritz in the semi-finals. This year, the team occupies a disappointing 12th place in the standings and remains in 6 consecutive defeats ahead of its last home game of the season on Friday.
