Welsh flyhalf Rhys Patchell has signed a one-year contract with the Highlanders. The New Zealand rugby franchise announced the hiring on Wednesday.
Welsh rugby player Rhys Pachel (30), with 22 caps since 2013, has signed a one-year contract with the Highlanders. The announcement was made by the New Zealand franchise on Wednesday. The player, who was recently released by Welsh club Scarlett, follows in the footsteps of former England international Freddie Burns, who played for Dunedin this season.
Patchell said he was excited to be joining the Highlanders for the 2024 rugby season, which kicks off in February. βThe opportunity to go to Dunedin was too good to pass up. After following Super Rugby from afar, I can’t wait for the 2024 season to begin.βPachel said. The Highlanders, who also signed Fijian winger Timosi Tavatavanaway from franchise Moana Pacifica, missed the Super Rugby Pacific knockout stage in 2023.
