New Zealand crushes Argentina and reaches the final
The All Blacks dominated the Argentines (44-6) on Friday at the Stade de France, during the 2023 Rugby World Cup semi-final.
The New Zealanders reached their fifth World Cup final with a 44-6 win over Argentina on Saturday, and are waiting to see if South Africa or England will follow them.
With seven tries scored, New Zealand demolished the Pumas in the semi-final with no suspense, despite a good start from the South Americans. Ciel et Blanc opened the scoring with a penalty kick by Emiliano Bovelli, rewarding an ambitious start. But the New Zealanders quickly took control of the match and led by 14 points before the break (20-6).
Faster and stronger, the three-time world champion (1987, 2011 and 2015) dominated the South American side in all areas of the game, such as winger Will Jordan’s three tries (11, 62, 73), taking his total to eight. In this tournament, he equaled the record of his compatriots Jonah Lomu, Julian Savea and South African Brian Habana. Third grader Shannon Frizell (two tries) and her teammates then managed to make their progress through the second term, despite a yellow card received by second grader Scott Barrett (67).
Coach Ian Foster even had the luxury of bringing several executives out before the hour mark in anticipation of the final scheduled for Saturday 28 October. The All Blacks will meet the winner of the confrontation between South Africa and England, as they will play in the second semi-final match scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, at 9 pm at Stade de France.
