Netflix is finally adding this must-have feature
finally. Always available on Amazon Prime Video, Netflix just introduced the A late but essential new feature. For a few hours, it was already possible to customize the display of subtitles on the streaming platform. Until now, the option was only available on the web version of the app, and had to go through the profile settings.
From now on, all you have to do is go to the platform’s TV app Customize subtitle size, color and style. Suitable for large living rooms and indoor moles, the option now lets you choose between three sizes, contrasting backgrounds, plus a new, more readable yellow colorway. Very good news, especially when you know that 70% of American users watch N rouge movies and series on TV, according to a study published by the company in 2018.
Most importantly, subtitles on SVOD platforms are growing in popularity. Several factors explain this enthusiasm, from the success of many foreign (not just English-speaking) creations that don’t always benefit from audio dubbing, to our annoying habit of doing too many things at the same time when we consume certain programs. The platform’s poor audio quality will also be factored in, for 80% of US subscribers, according to a 2019 study.
Not everyone is worried
It’s time to Netflix is catching up. However, not all languages are affected. In detail, it will be impossible to enjoy customized subtitles in Arabic, Hebrew, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Romanian, and Thai.
The French will be able to benefit from video personalization, but they will have to get out soon. While the end of account sharing hasn’t officially been rolled out yet, its announcement has been official for several months now, and it’s only a matter of time before it takes effect. In advance, the decision that Netflix has made since last year will take the form of a paid option of a few euros, which will allow up to two additional devices to connect to the service outside the home.
